Global Teacher Link ~ Mrs. Hall goes to Malawi!

Our ASN teacher Mrs. Hall is going on an African adventure this summer!

I am planning to give up 5 weeks of my summer holiday to work as part of the Link Community Development (LCD) Global teacher?s programme. I will be living and working in a rural community where there is no electricity or running water. I plan to be working with staff at a school where there will be classes of over 100 pupils and minimal resources. Although only 5 weeks in Malawi the programme lasts 15 months as on my return I will be working with pupils and teachers in Scottish schools, raising development issues and forging links between schools and groups.
I am very grateful and excited to have this fantastic opportunity and hope to give and learn so much both in Africa and on my return to Scotland. The placement has been possible through Link Community Development with support from SEED (The Scottish Executive Education Department and DFID (Department for International Development). LCD has already funded 70% of the cost but we have to try and raise the rest. Any extra money raised would be used for special projects such as provision of books in schools and buildings.

I wanted to do something to help raise money but also raise awareness of some aspects of village life in Malawi. The 10th Anniversary Great Scottish Walk will provide the challenge -particularly if walked with a bucket of water on my head. (Possibly also with some young Woodcraft Folk from Wester Hailes). I think it will be hard work! --but I draw the line at walking barefoot!

So please sponsor this worthwhile cause,

Many thanks for all your support,

Love Liz
