John Foster Goodwill Village 3
One thing is holding them back, the Electricity Supply. It was never very reliable and recently it has become hopelessly intermittent. (Hydro-electric power in a very dry part of India)
What we need is a robust diesel generator in a secure shed with an oil storage tank. The cost will be about £5000. (Gilmerton Primary School sent a cheque for £47.80)
Yes , this Children's Home for the poor is nominated a "Memorial", but least of all deserving to its Founder I feel, far more surely to the kind and generous band of worldwide supporters on whom we rely so much.
WITHOUT YOU WE COULD NEVER SURVIVE.
This place was registered as a society in 1993 and was granted its coveted number from the government of India in New Delhi four years later.
This JOHN FOSTER MEMORIAL HOME is venerable farmhouse, which he purchased almost totally from his own pocket.
WE GIVE OUR WORD OF PROMISE never ever to misuse, misset ,outpend or waste kind gifts sent out to us.
Our Cook we enployed at the rate of Rs.300/- per month (that is only about £4.25 per month)
This summer so far has blessed us with an unusually heavy rainfall, and the crops grow tall. The STUDY ROOM is completed and in full use for which we THANK YOU ALL. As you know, we did much of the work ourselves, made all the bricks, then attractively painted to finish the job.
This home is now full to overflowing with children, its precise purpose anyway, and all attend school in happiness. However several sad shadows of sadness have fallen across our path. We were indeed sorry to lose an old and kind friend ALBERT JAMES WOOD who died on 30th April this year, aged 83. Albert was my own junior school teacher way back in 1934-5, and who I lost sight of for the next 40 or more years; I searched in vain for him, umpteen people of that name, but all to no avail. Then suddenly out of the blue I found him again to discover he lived in Pitsford near Northampton.
Do please accept our warmest thanks for your continued loyalty and the kind gift of £88.
